Boy Scout Troop 6 News

Boy Scouting (Grade 6-12) is a program with a purpose. It is a way for youth to gain strong ethics, moral fiber, and duty to God, all while learning valuable skills. And it is a way to develop future leaders. The world has changed, but the basic concepts of Scouting have remained constant, with values, aims, and methods that continue to mold boys into exceptional adults.

Registration for the 2005 – 2006 scouting season is Monday September 12th and 19th.   Enrollment is open for all boys from 6th grade to 18 years.  Stop by the Hough’s Neck Congregational Church between 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Registration fee is $20.00.

Bottle Drives: Many thanks to all of you who continue to support Scouting by donating your bottles.   Last year we were very fortunate to be able to send all of our scouts to summer camp for free, first time in troop history.  Keep saving those bottles they have helped us grow our program.  Next bottle drive: September 10th at the parking lot of Labreque Field.

Cub Scout Pack 6 News

The cubs held their graduation ceremonies in May.  A wonderful scouting year was culminated with a super Family Camping Weekend at Camp Massasoit in Plymouth.  A contingency of over 30 cubs, parents, siblings and leaders attended.  Many of the cubs earned a free weekend for selling popcorn during the cubs’ popcorn fundraiser last fall.  The cubs performed some great skits at the Saturday night campfire.

Registration for the 2005 – 2006 scouting season is Monday September 12th and 19th.   Enrollment is open for all boys from 1st to 5th grade.  Stop by the Hough’s Neck Congregational Church between 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Registration fee is $20.00. See below for a description of the Cub Scout programs available.

Tiger Cubs (Grade 1) - The Tiger Cub program is designed to introduce first grade boys and their adult partners to Cub Scouting. Each boy/adult pair selects a theme from one of 17 "Big Ideas." They serve as hosts for a month, during which one meeting is usually held in the home and a second gathering involves a field trip. The Tiger Cub and his family are encouraged to attend the monthly Cub Scout pack meeting.

Cub Scouts (Grade 2 – 3)  - Cub Scouts can be fun and fulfilling for the boys by recognizing personal achievement and strengthens family understanding as adult family members work with boys on advancement projects. During their work at home and in the den, they earn beads as evidence that they are "progressing toward rank."

Webelos  (Grade 4 - 5) - These older Cub Scouts prepare for the transition into Boy Scouts. They earn activity badge pins in up to 20 activity areas that introduce them to a myriad of career possibilities. More independence is evidenced as the boys complete most of their activities in the den setting. Besides the Webelos badge and activity pins, these boys strive to earn the Arrow of Light badge, Cub Scouting's highest honor.
